A short guide to queen mattress dimensions, bedroom clearance, comfort choices and the combined height of your mattress and support. Licensed stock imagery is illustrative and does not show actual AK products or its showroom.

Start with the room you use every day

At AK Furniture and Mattresses, compare queen options by construction, comfort description and mattress height, then check how the complete bed will fit your room. Review the selected Queen price before adding it to your cart. If you are replacing more than the mattress, keep a separate list of the frame, support and bedding you need.

A standard queen mattress measures approximately 60 inches wide by 80 inches long. That is the mattress footprint; a headboard, upholstered rails or footboard can make the complete bed larger. Measure the actual frame as well as the space where it will sit. The Better Sleep Council’s mattress-size guide is a useful reference for comparing standard sizes.

Mark the planned bed outline on the floor and walk your normal route from the door to the closet. Open dresser drawers and check whether you can comfortably reach both bedside areas. A room may accommodate the mattress while leaving an awkward gap beside a nightstand. Use your own furniture measurements and daily movements to decide whether that arrangement works.

Moving from full to queen

A standard full mattress is approximately 53 by 75 inches. Queen adds about seven inches of width and five inches of length, so an existing full-size frame and fitted sheets should not be assumed to fit. Check your frame’s supported size and buy bedding for the selected mattress size and depth.

If you are weighing queen against king, both standard sizes are about 80 inches long. Queen uses 16 fewer inches of width. That difference can matter when you want space for a reading chair, a usable dresser or a clearer walking route. Consider who will use the bed and how the bedroom needs to function before choosing.

Compare comfort separately from size

Queen describes dimensions, not a particular feel. Our catalog includes foam and hybrid choices with different comfort descriptions. For example, the Nectar Classic Memory Foam Mattress is listed as firm with a 12-inch profile. The Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress is listed as medium firm with a 13-inch profile and individually wrapped coils with edge support.

Use those descriptions to build a shortlist rather than treating one construction as automatically right for everyone. Notice what you like about your current mattress, where you want a different feel and how easily you change positions. If two people share the bed, compare both sets of preferences. Ask which shortlisted models you can evaluate before making a showroom trip.

Check the whole bed height and support

Mattress thickness affects the finished height of your bed once the frame and any foundation are included. Measure your current setup if its height works well for you. Add the intended support height and the selected mattress profile when planning a replacement, and check the pocket depth of fitted sheets.

The Nectar Classic Memory Foam and Premier Hybrid listings identify adjustable-base compatibility and say the foundation or box spring is sold separately. Confirm the exact base and mattress combination you plan to use. Read the selected product’s support and warranty requirements; do not assume that an existing foundation or a different brand’s base meets them.

Your queen-mattress buying checklist

Before ordering, confirm the Queen selection, the complete product name and the items included. Review the current selected-variant price rather than relying on a collection’s starting price. Note whether you are buying a mattress alone or also need a frame, foundation or adjustable base. Ask about availability and delivery arrangements for that exact option.

Explore all mattresses if you are still comparing sizes, or browse hybrid mattresses to narrow your construction choices. For help organizing your shortlist, call AK Furniture and Mattresses at (616) 202-3674. Bring room measurements, your current bed height and details of the support you intend to keep. Those specifics make the conversation more useful than a size name alone.
